Consultancy services for GAVI health system strengthening support evaluation

The achievement of immunisation coverage is dependent upon strong health systems. GAVI has therefore been investing in the strengthening of health systems in eligible countries. The GAVI Board has initially invested US$ 500 million in the Health System Strengthening (HSS) window in late 2005, later increasing the window to US$ 800 million in February 2008. Disbursement of funds began in mid 2007, and exceeded US$160 million as of June 2008.

GAVI is now commissioning an evaluation study, in order to allow lessons to be learned from the first two years of HSS implementation. The evaluation is independent, and will provide recommendations to the GAVI Board on whether and how the HSS window should be maintained. It will also serve to strengthen HSS support at country, regional and global levels.
